According to research from Abintegro, the online career development portal, when employees say they need more career support from their employer, they are most likely looking for support to prepare for a promotion, a change in role or an internal interview.
It is widely known that a lack of career development opportunities is a key reason for employees moving to an external role at a huge cost to employers. The Abintegro digital career coaching platform is used by HR and L&D teams to support employees across all levels, rather than following the traditional model of restricting career coaching to senior management or the privileged few on a talent scheme.
According to the Mercer Global Talent Trends Study 2016, 85% of talent management programmes need to be improved and 46% of British employees state they have never had a ‘high quality’ career development conversation with their manager. Therefore, it is no surprise that the videos and eLearning assets covering promotion, internal moves and internal interviews were 10 times more likely to be searched for than resources covering workplace skills such as project management, team-work and leadership, based on usage data analysis of 100,000 users within 150 UK institutions using the Abintegro platform.
‘Most HR & L&D teams offer their staff eLearning to support technical skill development, but tend to be lacking the type of support you would expect to receive from a personal career coach’ observes Abintegro Commercial Director, David Heard. ‘We know employees are actively seeking support to help achieve an internal move, and we know employers want to improve internal mobility. The key reason the UK’s biggest brands are adopting Abintegro is to bring the benefit of career coaching to all employees for the first time in a cost effective way.’
